Thomas the Train
A special cake I did for my godson who just celebrated his 2nd birthday. His mom requested that I make a thomas the train cake as my godson is very much fond of this character now.
This was a huge cake with 4 batches of mocha cake, 2 batches of swiss meringue buttercream, and 2 batches of fondant.
I made Thomas' face with fondant ahead of time to dry it out a little.
Here's how I assembled the cake...
I took the Thomas' body into two parts to assemble. The upper part where his face attaches and the bottom part where the wheels are.
For the upper part, I cut the base to the size I wanted.
And 3 more cakes cut for the back side, about half of the base.
Then another cake cut about 1 inch smaller than the 3 cakes that I used for the back part.
Then I used a biscuit cutter to size up the cake where I am going to attach Thomas' face. This is the same size I used for Thomas face.
Cut 4 or 5 circle cakes using the biscuit cutter.
I lined everything up to measure and make sure that I have enough cake and got the correct size.
With some cake scrap, I added some to the side of the round cakes.
A small cake scrap added at the front.
After I have cut all the pieces, I assembled the top part with buttercream.
Here's another view. After putting enough buttercream, placed in the refrigerator to prep for fondant.
The bottom part, I used two cakes. I cut the bottom part where the wheels will be about 2 inches less wider. I also baked one batch of cake with about half the size so that it will be thinner. Or you can cut the cake that's 2 inches tall to half so it will be an inch high.
Then assembled and frosted. I forgot to take pictures of one part where I put some scrap cake in front so the bottom will be longer than the top cake. After frosting, placed in refrigerator to prep for fondant.
Once the frosting is hard enough, I covered the bottom part with red fondant. Following a Thomas train toy for guide on how I should decorate it.
Then blue fondant where the wheels will be. I also placed this bottom part on top of an inch of styrofoam to give it enough height for the wheels. You can use another cake also, just didn't have enough cake baked for it so I made use of the styrofoam.
Covered the top part with all blue fondant.
Placed the bottom part on the cake board I prepared. Then placed enough support inside the bottom cake (I used fat straws). Then placed the top part on above it.
Attached the face I made in front with some water mixed with gum tex.
For the wheels, I cut 6 circles of the blue fondant.
Then rolled a long string of the blue fondant.
Cut the rolled string and attached it to the circle fondant for the spokes of the wheel and the rim.
Cut another 6 smaller circles for the middle of the wheels.
And 6 semi circles.
Here's how the wheel looked like.
Attached 3 wheels on each side of the train.
Then add all the small details on the train to make it look like Thomas. Here's the finished product.
Hope that this will help you somehow when it's time for you to make your own Thomas the Train cake. :)
Thank you, Mama!
A small cake that was ordered by a friend who wanted to surprise his mother with a special thank you cake. It was a sweet gesture surprising his mom with no special occasion to celebrate.
Cake is 6" round vanilla cake frosted and filled with vanilla buttercream. Covered and decorated with fondant.

Red Skull Cake
This is the cake I did for my son's birthday party. He requested a red skull cake and he told me what the cake design should be. So this was totally his idea that I executed.
Red skull was a toy that I bought as he said that it needs to be a real toy! Plus the fact that I can't mold figures with such details. :)
Name, number and fire design were fondant colored yellow orange and dusted with red edible petal dust for the fire effect.
Cake was mocha cake with swiss meringue buttercream flavored in mocha also.
Batman Cake
A small round cake I did for my son's birthday. I did this so that he has a cake on his exact birthday and have candles to blow off.
Cake was 6" round chocolate cake, frosted with vanilla buttercream and covered with yellow fondant. I printed the batman logo and traced it on fondant then cut it. Letters and number cutouts was from the frosting sheet that you can buy from Wilton.
Small Bag Cake
Small bag cake that I did for a friend who celebrated her 30th birthday. This was a very easy and quick cake, just used 1 8" round chocolate cake cut in half and had it stand on the side that I cut it. Very simple design also, covered with fondant and did the quilt design on both sides of the bag. Then used an aluminum wire to hold up the fondant balls that I used as the handle. Then a small white ribbon rose to give a little accent in front.
Cake was chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting.
Miami Heat Jersey Cake
This was the cake I did for my brother in law who came to visit us first week of June. It was a lot of fun seeing him and his kids after more than 8 years of not seeing them. I did the cake as he celebrated his birthday in June, an early celebration for us.
Obviously, he's a huge Miami Heat fan and am sure he's having a blast now that the Heat won the NBA championship this year. :)
Cake was chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and vanilla buttercream frosting decorated in fondant.
Baby Shower Cake
This was the baby shower cake I did for a coworker who's having a baby girl. This is one of the three cakes I had to make in a week. Pretty hectic week but somehow I was able to pull everything off. :)
Cake was chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. Covered in fondant and put on some white chocolate accents on the bottom tier. Also tried the baby mold I purchased some time ago. It was pretty cute and my coworkers were pretty amazed. I had to make a mini bib to cover the baby's butt. Don't know if it's okay to let it all hang out and bring it in the office.
Mom to be was happy and very appreciative since I was off the day of her shower and I did come by to deliver the cake. :)
40th Birthday Cake and Cupcakes
Did these cake and cupcakes for a friend who celebrated his 40th birthday last May. The wife asked if I can make cupcakes and if I had the spare time because around that time I had a lot going on. My sister and her family was coming over for a visit, it's been a long time since we've seen her family so we were very excited and was trying to prepare as much as we can. Also, my brother in law had a birthday coming up so I have already planned on making him a birthday cake. Then to top it of, my boss at work ask if I can make the baby shower cake for our team mate.
Well, anyways, obviously I had the time to make a simple cake for our friend and the cupcakes that his wife requested. Unfortunately, we were not able to attend the party since we went out of town the day before the party.
The cake was chocolate moist cake with chocolate ganache filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. Simple design with stars and covered it and the letters/numbers and border with silver edible glitter.
Cupcakes are vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting topped with colorful fondant accents. I tried a new vanilla cake recipe and my son who did the taste test said it was pretty good. :)
All in all, though it was a hectic week, I had fun doing these cake and cupcakes.

Boombox Cake
This was for a 40th birthday celebration. Wife of celebrant said that they are having an 80's theme and gave me options of boombox, guitar, 80's themed cake. So I went ahead and made a boombox cake.
This is my first time making this design and also my first time using an edible silver spray. I could say that I loved using the spray. This seriously made me want to get an airbrush spray even more. Very easy to color the entire cake as opposed to painting it silver.
Cake was mocha cake with mocha flavored swiss meringue buttercream as requested.
Hope the celebrant will like it.

Orange Flowerettes
Another cake I made for a friend's 40th birthday. Her favorite color is orange thus the color of the cake. I always have a hard time thinking of a design on cake where the main color is orange. So I just opted to put little flowers all over the first tier almost covering it and then some on the bottom tier.
Cake was chocolate cake with cherry buttercream filling and frosted with vanilla buttercream.
Pink with Ruffles
I made this cake for a friend who celebrated her 40th Birthday. Had fun doing this but due to lack of time I opted to not do the ruffles on the bottom tier. I originally planned on putting ruffles on both tiers. Also used some pink dragees at the bottom tier and also as a buckle design on the border of the top tier.
Cake was mocha cake with mocha swiss meringue buttercream.
Pink Baptism Cake
Made this Baptism cake for a friend's baby girl. Mom gave me the freedom to design the cake. So I came up with this design. I've always wanted to try doing a bow and finally had the chance to do it on this cake. Bow turned out great. Thanks to this tutorial I found online.. Fondant Loop Bow Tutorial
Cake was mocha cake with mocha swiss meringue buttercream, as requested by the mom. First tier I decorated with quilt design and small flowers accents. Top tier has pink and silver stripes with pink and silver ball border.

Gold Silver Birthday Cake
A friend requested to make a gold/silver theme birthday cake for her mother's birthday. And to be honest I had a hard time making up the design of the cake. I wanted it to be elegant but not looking like a wedding cake.
I made a rose out of gumpaste and painted it with gold highlighter dust. Same with the number.
The bottom tier I decorated with petals that were dusted with silver petal dust. Picture doesn't show the shimmer of the bottom tier.
All in all I am pleased with how this cake turned out. Elegant and simple.
Birthday Cupcakes
Cupcakes galore.. Made these for six birthday celebrants last January. Cupcakes were chocolate with mocha swiss meringue buttercream. Toppers were fondant with some candy pearls.

Cars Lightning McQueen
Finally got the chance to make a Lightning McQueen cake. Definitely a tough challenge but I'm quite happy how it turned out. At first I didn't quite know how and where to start carving the cake. After a lot of glances at the toy of my son I did finally got in the groove of carving it. :)
Cake's a white vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream.
Matching cupcakes were chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. Cake topper was simple design but a tedious work. Happy how these turned out too.
Another want to do cake checked off my list! :)
